1️⃣ Consider making it free
It’s hard to sell if the product:
- is so simple that it makes people ask,
- If I sell it as a paid template to store one’s own lessons, but it only has an empty, simple gallery database and some callouts, will it sell well?
- Most likely no. You don’t pay for something you can build easily.
- has a small market demand.
- Very few people find it useful.
- There are free & better alternatives.
- It solves a problem that doesn’t exist for most people.
Why should I pay if I can build the same in seconds/minutes?
Consider this Creator’s Manual.
It probably isn’t a good idea if your template is as described above, but making it free will help if you have a good reason to launch :D
If you’re just starting out, your goal is consistency, not profit.
- Building advanced templates worth paying for take a lot of time and effort. If you do this in the early stage, you may procrastinate & burnout easily that nothing can be launched.
- Instead, create simple ones as a means to get going and build consistency. You can improve a little by little until you’re confident enough to maintain the same consistency when building the advanced templates.
Advanced templates can be made free too.
- This is great for when you’re just starting out.
- Without a paywall, it allows more people to know what your advanced templates look like. If the templates are good, it gives an impression that your other paid, advanced templates are worth it too.
2️⃣ If you believe it’s worth paying for
Beta-test & get feedback on how much the testers would pay for it.
- You can tweet about it, but I’d recommend also directly messaging other Notion creators as your tweet may be overshadowed in the crowded feed. Don’t worry, the community is supportive!
- Create a waitlist and ask your subscribers!
Consider the time and effort you put in.
How much would you want to charge to make your contribution worthwhile?
What are other creators charging for similar products?
- Check the marketplace:
Diversify your marketplace
How expensive is the problem your template solves?
How much would you pay if someone is selling this product?
You can always change the pricing later.
- If no one buys but your reach is good (many views), reduce the price.
- If you sold a lot, increase the price (if you want).
The price of your template may represent its quality.
