Attention future creators, this part is crucial, so listen up. Getting started on Instagram can feel daunting for many, but it doesn't have to be that way... Within this module, I'll simplify the fundamentals of Instagram growth, covering everything from optimal posting times to content strategies.
Let's start by focusing on content quality.
"Why does it matter, Prine?"
Well, it matters a lot.
Your content needs to be excellent. You don't need fancy equipment, but here are some tips to improve your video quality without breaking the bank:
- Clean Your Lens: Ensure a clear, sharp image by wiping your camera lens.
- Good Lighting: Take advantage of natural light—it's free! Film in well-lit areas or use affordable lighting kits.
- Stable Shots: Keep your camera steady. If you don't have a tripod, use stable surfaces or DIY solutions to avoid shaky footage.
- Mind Your Background: Select a clean background to keep the focus on you and minimize distractions.
- Optimize Phone Settings: Experiment with your phone's camera settings to adjust exposure, white balance, and resolution for improved results.
I use my iPhone 13 for filming, typically on 4K at 30fps, and then I download my edited videos at 1080p, also at 30fps.
Keep in mind, it's not about having all the fancy gear; it's about maximizing what you already have.
Moving on to the next step of the plan.
Let's discuss the format. Currently, Instagram favors short-form videos called "reels," which I believe are essential for Instagram growth. While some niches use photo carousels, I find reels to be the most effective for faster growth.
Once you've built a larger following, you can experiment with other formats. Reels are excellent for growth, while photos and carousels help maintain follower interest.
When it comes to stories, there's no need to post 10 stories daily. Instead, aim for at least one story a day and engage with your followers through polls, questions, or freebies. This provides the algorithm with valuable data and increases the visibility of your reels.
Now, consider your content. What type of posts do you watch till the end and engage with?
Whether it's educational, motivational, funny, relatable, or entertaining, focus on creating content in these categories.
Have you ever shared a relatable reel with a friend or saved one for valuable information? That's the kind of content that resonates and connects with people.
Finally, reel structure. Your reel should have:
For an example lets use this video of mine that did extremely well 🙂
Strong Hook: Grab attention in the first few seconds for higher viewer retention.
The Base: Keep viewers engaged with useful info, a funny clip, or something else.
- The End and Call to Action: End with a call to action, like asking viewers to read the description. This keeps them on your reel longer, and Instagram likes that.
As for length, it varies. Some like 5-second videos, while others go up to a minute. Trial and testing will help find the ideal length.
Crafting Your Content:
The secret to crafting engaging Instagram content isn't about reinventing the wheel. Instead of striving for entirely novel ideas, especially when you're starting out, focus on leveraging what already works and infusing it with your unique perspective—whether through visuals or content themes.
Here's a glimpse into my strategy for achieving my first viral reel: I took inspiration from a successful concept by another creator and adapted it to a different topic!
Unveiling the Infinite Viral Content Loop:
- Compile a list of 10 creators within your niche, targeting a range of follower counts, particularly between 20-300k.
- Scout for their most viral reels (with over 1M plays).
- Curate these reel URLs into a spreadsheet.
These reels will serve as your springboard for initial video ideas, substantially increasing your chances of going viral, provided you maintain consistency.
- Rinse and repeat: Once you've exhausted your initial ideas, analyze and select the reels that yielded the best results for you.
- Recreate these reels with subtle tweaks to enhance your growth. Experiment with hooks, visuals, captions, etc.
